On the Economic Stimulus Package

Yesterday, I joined with collegues on both sides of the aisle to pas the Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act (It passed with a vote of 385-85!). This economic stimulus package means real results for 4.8 million households in the state of Ohio, granting tax rebates of up to $1200 per couple, plus $300 per child, which could be seen as early as mid-May of this year. There’s no doubt in my mind that this bill will help, even just a bit, the many families in our community that are struggling to get by. The legislation will also give great tax breaks to small business on capital improvements and equipment. I urge all of our small businesses to take advantage of them.

While this bill will be beneficial in the short term, we need to keep working to ensure a permanent road to economic stability and prosperity for every American, not just the privileged few. We are faced, currently, with enormous employment problems, off-the-chart health care costs, predatory lending practices from mortgage companies deceiving good people, and unfair trade agreements. It will take more than this stimulus package to cure those issues, and I’m counting on the President to step up and encourage the same bipartisan attitude that passed this bill in House to do the same to remedy these issues, as well. Hopefully, the need for this package will have sent that signal that things are beginning to get serious, and we need decisive action immediately.

Thank God for the Senate for remembering to include seniors citizens in on the economic stimulus package. I, guess you all in the House thought we were no longer Americans maybe you all will want to round us up and put a fence around us since we are no longer produtive workers this way no one has to look at our ugly old faces and bent bodies. hey, all we did was fight several wars put your butts thru college and make this the most productive nation on earth. Once more shame on you for forgetting.

I appreciate the fact the gov. is giving us our own money eight months early. Borrowing it seams a little redundent though. Why not negociate with oil like we did with Korea. If our gov thinks that this money is going to help stimulate the economy I just don't see it. With $4.00 a gal looming i think I'll just put my extra money on gas cards, it'll mean not having to quit my part-time job as soon. This means I won't have to go on welfare as soon as expected either. Round trip 60 miles a day just to get a job in my area at minimum wage, you do the math. If our gov. is so smart then why isn't anybody questioning the fact that nothing is being done to help us with our gas problem. How many barrels are in reserve sitting there doing nothing? Maybe we're keeping those for the next country that wants to do something we don't want them to do so we can give it to them. Welcome our next future welfare recipient here, at least I'll be able to keep my head above water financially with three kids when I no longer have to pay for my food or rent. I can feel my self esteem going through the sewer system even now. When are we going to hear from anybody in gov. who really cares about the nobody's in this country. Again thanks for screwing me come feb. on my taxes, that is how I get caught up on my energy bills because of winter costs that keep going up.
